Minutes of the East Grinstead & District Guild Quarterly Meeting
held at Speldhurst on Saturday, 12 January 2019
The meeting commenced at 5:39 pm.
The Chairman, Kate Wills, welcomed everyone to the meeting and thanked the Speldhurst ringers for preparing an excellent tea.
1. Apologies for Absence
These were received from Lynda Johnson and Ray Large
2. Minutes of the Quarterly Meeting on 8 September 2018 at Lingfield
The minutes were read by Patrick Wills (Guild Secretary), and approved by those present. Mike Bullett said that he had been unable to find the minutes on the Guild website. The Secretary apologised for this oversight and it was agreed that the minutes could be signed by the Chairman subject to any future amendment.
3. Matters Arising
Iain Davey said that it would be possible to use the church hall at Crawley for the AGM.
Kate Wills said that she would be happy to continue as Central Council Representative until the end of the current triennium (2019). However, she said that she would not be able to attend this year’s meeting, which was being held at Goldsmith’s College, New Cross, London, on 7 September. Kate asked if anyone would be willing to attend in her place. There were no volunteers.
4. Election of New Members
Stephen Newlands from Cowden was proposed by Mike Bullett, elected, and welcomed to the Guild.
5. Informal Dinner
Andrew Brock gave details of the informal dinner which would be held at The Star Inn, Felbridge, on Saturday 9 February at 7.30 pm. This is a Greene King “Chef and Brewer” pub, serving a wide selection of food at reasonable prices. The management has requested that food orders are placed in advance. The Secretary said he would put details of the event on the Guild website, send an email to all members, and compile a spreadsheet of orders for the pub.
6. Suggested Meeting Programme
This had been prepared by the Secretary and circulated to members at tea. There were some useful comments about the suitability of some towers for business meetings and as winter venues, and it was agreed to discuss the programme at the forthcoming Committee meeting. The Winchester area was suggested as a possible venue for the Guild outing in July and as there were no other volunteers, the Secretary agreed to arrange the outing.
7. Any other Business
The Guild Treasurer, Mike Bullett, said that he had made good progress at collecting subs for 2019.
The meeting closed at 6.00 pm.
Members were informed that ringing could continue until 8 pm.
